The entire footballing will watch eagerly as David Moyes attempts to win his first piece of silverware.
This coming Sunday 11th August 2013 Manchester United will line up against Wigan Athletic in England’s traditional curtain raiser in the Community Shield at Wembley.
This is a chance for Premier League winners to come face to face with the FA Cup winners-Wigan and enjoy a day out At Wembley with fellow team-mates with the added bonus of acquiring some early season silverware.
For David Moyes, however, this is arguably the biggest game of his managerial career to date. Sure, bigger games will eventually rise over the course of the coming season but, for Moyes at least, this is his chance to Prove some of his doubters wrong.
When Sir Alex Ferguson officially announced his retirement on May 8th, it left Manchester United FC. Wondering how the gap left by the most successful manager of the modern era would be filled. It meant for the first time in 27 years, Manchester United FC were facing upto the prospect of having to continue thier winning mentality without the experienced Sir alex guiding them. It became therefore crucial for the next Manchester United manager to stamp his mark on the club and Lead the reds to further success after Sir Alex Ferguson.
8th may 2013- The daunting thoughts that Every Manchester United fan dreaded to think about became a reality. Sir Alex Ferguson announced that he he would retire at the end of the season after 26 years in charge of the Red devils.
The scot had ended his well-earned trophy success of -38 trophies during his reign at Old Trafford.
His absolutely Astonishing Trophy haul included: 13 Premier Leagues. 2 Champions Leagues. Five FA cups and Four League Cups.
The rich and famus began to pay thier tributes to a footballing great.
Tributes to Sir Alex were led by Prime Minister David Cameron, who tweeted: "Sir Alex Ferguson's achievement at #MUFC has been exceptional."
"Sir Alex's Managerial record will surely never be eclipsed." Michael Owen.
Im Totally Shocked... Whats he's done is unbelievable. You'll never see anyone of his kind again. Paul Ince- Former United player.
Some of the country's top football managers reacted to Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement as Reds manager.
Roberto Mancini, manager of United's local rivals Manchester City, says it was a "great honour and pleasure to compete against him", while David Moyes says Ferguson will be "sorely missed" by everyone in football.
Also offering their thoughts on his departure are Mark Hughes, Aston Villa's Paul Lambert, Wigan manager Roberto Martinez, Crystal Palace's Ian Holloway and QPR boss Harry Redknapp.
So that meant the nightmare that all united fans dreader had become a Reality. Manchester United fans started to ponder about life without Sir Alex Ferguson...
Eventually, people started to acknowledge that SAF was no longer in charge of Manchester United. The question arose as to who would be his successer. Only one thing was for sure: His successer would have a mighty task on his hands.
It was therefore decided beforehand, that the manager should be english.
Early on , all the signs pointed towards David Moyes. His long standing freindship with SAF would help ease potential tensions between the new manager and the board.
This decision was always going to divide camps with many pointing out that the Scotsman had failed to deliver a single trophy during his time at Goodison Park and had very little European experience.
However, with no disrespect to Everton, the two clubs are worlds apart. Whilst the Manchester United board Will be patient, the fans will not be quite so forgiving and any hint that their team begin to underachieve will see Sir Alex’s name being belted out from the Stretford End. Triumph in the Community Shield will undoubtedly ease the pressure over the first few weeks of the coming season.
It is a game that Manchester United are expected to win but lets remember that this was also expected of Manchester City in the FA Cup in May. This is a chance for Moyes to stake his claim that the passing of the baton is a smooth one and that his United side will perform with the same hunger and desire as it did under Sir Alex’s Proffessional Stewardship and guidance.
It is no secret that last seasons United side was criticised in many ways as one of the weakest Ferguson sides of recent times and the fact that they won the Premier League with such ease is a testament to Sir Alex’s ability to get the best out of what is at his disposal. A Summer of wheeling and dealing was always on the cards and whoever Moyes drafts in will be scrutinised heavily. There will be no luxury of a ‘settling in’ period and they will be expected to perform from week one.
Credit to David Moyes dad he immediately identified the weakness in this team- The midfield. He set his focus on possible CM signings with rumours arising of Moyes pusuing Thiago Alcantra. However, Thiago Alcantra Snubbed united to join his former Boss, Pep Gaudiola at Bayern Munich. It later emerged that in fact, He was never a target for Mufc and they were never in for him.
Promptly, Manchester United turned thier focus to Cesc Fabregas. This time there was a big difference: Manchester United had expressed their interest in cesc very openly.
As Cesc Fabregas Needed first team reassurances, Manchester United had a few attempts at getting him. But eventually they failed with 2/3 bids. And Barcelona rejected claims that Fabregas would leave and insisted that he would saty at Barca. But reports suggest Manchester United have not give up on Fabregas just yet. But the deal is looking very unlikely now.
Also, Wayne Rooney's future is also looking very uncertain and may well leave the reds. Rumours say he is ready to hand in a transfer request. One things for sure, he is not Happy at all currently.
Manchester United have also been heavily linked to Everton Duo, Baines and FellIt is understood Moyes is keen on them due to his previous job. But Manchester United havent yet focused on them too much. While David Moyes Is intent on Marking his stamp on the club, Manchester United Fans are getting frustrated with the lack of signings so far.
Big changes to Squads have taken place At Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool as they look to bridge the gap and Moyes Is expected to sign a few players to help carry the momentum into the Upcoming campaign.
There will be added pressure once the Champions League kicks off as Moyes, who has limited European experience, will attempt to get closer to the big two from Germany and Spain. Whilst many will continue to argue that United were unlucky to crash out at the hands of Real Madrid last season, Moyes will be expected to at least mirror the achievements of United’s last European adventure. Failing to qualify from the group stages would be disastrous.
However, all of this is a long way into the future and it will be this sunday at Wembley which could prove to be the stepping stone for any future successes. Whilst the outcome of the match may well have absolutely no bearing on United’s season, there is no doubt that this match now holds extra importance.
The entire footballing world will be watching as Moyes attempts to win his first piece of silverware At Manchester United. Quite simply, losing is not an option. Losing would create an air of negativity around Old Trafford and questions would start to be asked.
Wigan
I apologize to Wigan Athletic fans as i have not done much justice to thier incredible achievements thus far.
11th May 2013- Wigan defeated Manchester City in incredible fashion. Ben Watson scored with a header on the 91st minute meaning Wigan Athletic were the Fa Cup winners- 2012/13. Three days later they lost 4-1 to Arsenal and got relegated.
And Thus, Wigan became the first ever Premier League side to win the FA Cup and get relegated in the same season.
Never the less, it was a extraordinary acheievement for Roberto Martinez and dave Whelan and the whole Wigan Athletic crew. Especially, as the whole footballing world expected Manchester City to come out as winners. Manchester City were strong, strong favourites. And even then, Wigan Athletic stunned the world in emphatic fashion.
There name will surely be etched on the walls of history.
A fortnight after their FA Cup Success, Manager Roberto Martinez, who in my view is a class manager resigned and later became Everton Manager.
